Overview
Honor's project spanning two semesters.
Team: Heather Chiang, Aleksandra Skibicki, Jenny Thai
A five week team project to design an retail space (brandscape) and product design for the innovative industrial design company Alessi with an interaction design perspective. Brandscaping is about extending a brand into the spatial context. We had to design a space that enhanced and contained meaningful interactions for customers visiting the store. We also had to designa a product that was interactive and fit into the current brand and line of Alessi products.
Process
(5 weeks of process)
Researched the Alessi brand and company, did a brand analysis and user analysis.
Performed a contextual site analysis of an area of Vancouver chosen for the retail space.
Conducted interviews with locals, shoppers and shops in the area.
Researched Alessi products and design, created prototypes of product ideas.
Created a journey framework to examine customer experience in the proposed concept store
Iterated ideas in design process and created numorous prototypes.
Result
An interactive Alessi retail space that communicated and extended their brand as well as a product design. Design deliverables included a 3d modeled space and interactions as well a a 3d model of the product design. We designed the brandscape so that it connected to the neighbourhood and extended itself to the street, and provided unique ways to explore the Alessi store and products.
